This 4.3-inch display can be viewed without special glasses, and LG has made some slight modifications to the user interface so that it can be entirely three dimensional.
The alternate user interface is engaged with a long press of a side key marked "3D", but it is quite hard on the eyes after long usage, and it is much easier to use the classic two-dimensional Android OS user interface.
3D video, images, and the user interface are not as convincing as they would be on screens which require glasses, but they are nevertheless effective.
However, images are not as sharp as on the displays of rival smartphones because of the dual-layer screen required for the 3D effect, but the colors are very intense.
This phone's biggest shortcoming is that it is very heavy, weighing in at 6.0 ounces (168 grams).
PERFORMANCE
Google's Android OS 2.2 was installed on a LG Optimus 3D prototype that I tried out, but it will be upgradeable to Android OS 2.3.In my tests, I loved how everything functioned incredibly fast, regardless of whether I was using 2D or 3D functions. The 1 GHz dual-core processor from Texas Instruments was clearly a good choice.
This device has more than just a 3D screen; it also sports a stereoscopic back-facing camera with a 5 megapixel resolution intended for recording 3D videos.
Along with the launch of this phone, LG ventured into strategic partnership with YouTube, so the 3D films which the user records can be directly shared with this service`s 3D Channel, via a special application. Everyone can watch these, not only this phone's users, if they have the traditional blue and red glasses.
It's also nice that the Optimus 3D has a HDMI slot, which means that 3D content can be watched on TV sets that support this feature.
